Düsseldorf - On your knees!
Friday evening, after work, we were ready to go. It has to be said quite clearly. An overnight bus journey with FlixBus to Düsseldorf is anything but relaxed. At least we didn’t have to repack any suitcases this time. We had divided everything (equipment because of the flight) into 2 rucksacks anyway. The bus was a little late, but made up for it during the journey. Sleeping was again difficult as usual, but the journey was generally normal and unspectacular. When I got off the bus, however, I fell very awkwardly and hit my knee. This caused my trousers to bleed through quite quickly. You don’t really think about plasters and stuff like that when you’re planning to get on an airplane. The pain was quite unpleasant. But we were already in Düsseldorf and somehow the lack of sleep numbed everything. We decided to take a cab to the airport. Unfortunately, no one from the “Rhein Fire Reisen” WhatsApp group could and/or wanted to take the detour. And arriving at the train station in the middle of the night with a pile of equipment and a bruised knee was not one of my favorite ideas. When we arrived at the airport, the knee area of my – fortunately black – trousers was completely bled over. We then stood in front of the counters and had a few small talks with other passengers. Then the counters opened. The designations were really nice and funny. I tortured myself a little bit at a time. You soon realize that not everyone is really relaxed. But I don’t want to throw anyone under the bus here. Anyway, we had checked in and went through security (again with one hand on our pants, of course, because we weren’t wearing a belt … and we had to clear everything out and explain that we were photographers).
Then came the news that the special shirts would probably be handed over BEFORE check-in. However, we were already on our way along with other travelers. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the shirts until today. I suspected that some people had simply taken several. Too bad, would have been a nice souvenir.
