Great news from Vienna: Jan-Phillip Bombek remains a Viking!
The Vienna Vikings have landed another coup and extended the contract with linebacker Jan-Phillip Bombek. The 28-year-old edge rusher will therefore continue to cause a sensation in the Austrian capital in the coming season. Bombek, who is already in his fifth season in the European League of Football (ELF), has established himself as a real game changer. Since his debut for the Hamburg Sea Devils in 2021 and a stopover with the Leipzig Kings, he is now an integral part of the Vienna Vikings. With 42 ELF games, 84 tackles and an impressive 28.5 sacks, he has made a name for himself and was even named to the ELF Second All-Star Team in 2022. No wonder Head Coach Chris Calaycay and Defensive Coordinator Daniel Auböck are full of praise: “Jan is simply a monster on the perimeter of our defense,” Calaycay said. “JP is a player that offensive coordinators call ‘a problem’. He’s one of the best pass rushers in Europe,” adds Auböck. With Bombek and other strong defenders such as Leo Misangumukini, Marvin Wappl and Thomas Schaffer, the Vikings are well equipped to attack in the coming season. After narrowly missing out on the title last year, the team is now keen to win the championship. We are excited to see how the Vikings will perform in the new season and will of course keep you up to date!
Bombek's career to date: from Hamburg via Leipzig to Vienna
Jan-Phillip Bombek has already made several stops in his career. He started out with the Hamburg Sea Devils in 2021, where he first attracted attention in the European League of Football. After a year in the Hanseatic city, he moved on to the Leipzig Kings before finally joining the Vienna Vikings in 2024. In his 42 ELF games to date, he has racked up impressive statistics: 84 tackles, including 36 for loss of space, and a strong 28.5 sacks. He also has three pass defenses, four forced fumbles and two recovered fumbles. No wonder he was selected to the 2022 ELF Second All-Star Team. With his athletic build and tireless effort, Bombek is a true asset to any defense. We are excited to see how he will perform with the Vikings next season and whether he can continue his impressive performances.
The Vienna Vikings are gearing up: Strong defense for the new season
With the contract extension of Jan-Phillip Bombek, the Vienna Vikings are sending a clear signal: they want to attack in the coming season and win the title. In addition to Bombek, the Vienna Vikings have already signed numerous other defensive players such as Leo Misangumukini, Marvin Wappl, Thomas Schaffer, Oskar Kranich, Manuel Radfux, Fabian Schmid, Florian Sudi as well as Florian and Max Grünsteidl. A strong defense is the be-all and end-all in American football, and the Vikings appear to be well equipped to make life difficult for the opposing quarterbacks. After narrowly missing out on the title last year, the team is now keen to win the championship. We are excited to see how the Vikings will perform in the new season and will of course keep you up to date!
Our conclusion: Why Bombek could be the key to success
Jan-Phillip Bombek is not only an outstanding player, but also a real leader on the pitch. With his experience and skill, he can read the game and make decisive plays. His ability to put pressure on the quarterback and at the same time stop the opponent’s running plays makes him a valuable all-rounder in the defense. If the Vienna Vikings want to be successful in the upcoming season, Bombek will play a key role. We are excited to see how he develops and whether he can continue his impressive performances. One thing is for sure: with Bombek in their ranks, the Vikings are a serious opponent for any team in the European League of Football.
